As County Executive I will embrace a common-sense, innovative, and inclusive approach to governing and problem-solving. I will build a diverse team of dedicated professionals to address the most pressing issues we face in Rockland and to move the county forward. I am approachable by nature and open to all points of view along the ideological spectrum when it comes to new ideas for enhancing our collective quality of life and increasing the productivity of our people and our businesses.
I abhor corruption or misappropriation of any kind and will always strive to act in the best interest of the public good. I believe in fair treatment for all and preferential treatment for none. My vision for Rockland is a place where people from every community can thrive and prosper together in a spirit of mutual respect and collaboration, free from hatred and secure in the belief that we are safe in our homes and our neighborhoods.
A Rockland native, Mike grew up on Spook Rock Road in a family of eight siblings. He attended Suffern High School, became an Eagle Scout, and was 4-time County Wrestling Champion. Mike was honored to receive then Congressman Benjamin Gilman's principal nomination to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he was captain of the NCAA Wrestling Team.
Upon graduation, Mike served in the 10th Mountain Division as Infantry Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Acting Commander. He was Airborne Ranger-qualified and rose to the rank of Captain. Subsequently, Mike built a successful career in private industry and earned a Master of Biotechnology from Pennsylvania State University. Currently Mike is the primary caregiver to his elderly mother who lives with him at home.
An appointee to the Rockland County Planning Board, Mike developed expertise and first-hand insight into the urgent situation regarding the county's overtaxed infrastructure, water supply, sewers, environmental resources, roads, and transportation. Mike recently resigned after more than ten years of service, consistently voting against overdevelopment and projects that did not adhere closely to zoning codes.
For more than twenty years Mike has been deeply involved in Rockland civic affairs and politics as a citizen advocate. He was one of the original organizers of Preserve Ramapo and Preserve Rockland—grassroots movements that challenged the political machine in fighting overdevelopment, corruption, and misappropriation. Mike has been active in electoral politics, both running and supporting others for elected office, while remaining true to principles of fair play and good government.
A strong voice for fair representation and voting rights, Mike led a protracted but successful court battle to force a referendum on a ward system in the Town of Ramapo. He has filed other pro se actions, including a challenge to the 2020 redistricting of the County Legislature because it disenfranchised key communities of interest and gave a disproportionately greater share of power to others.
Mike's personal integrity, dedication to public service, and deep love and understanding of Rockland will bring energetic, principled leadership to the office of County Executive.
